Behavior Services

The Board Certified Behavior Analysts at the Connections Therapy Center use a range of behavior services to help every child reach their fullest potential. As the top therapy center focused solely on children and adolescents with special needs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, our mission is to improve the quality of life for children and adolescents and their families through therapy services and other unique programs.

Our behavior services are designed to help children and adolescents with autism, communication disorders, and other developmental disabilities. Though designed for children and adolescents with behavior concerns, we believe behavior services are beneficial for all children and adolescents in helping them develop the skills necessary for independent functioning and success in childhood. Behavior services reach children and adolescents of all ages, and all unique backgrounds, focusing on the core social, communicative, and developmental skills of every child.

Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs and BCBA-Ds) and trained ABA therapists ensure that only evidence-based, data-driven methods are utilized.

Though we focus on Natural Environment Teaching, our behavior analysts’ approach to behavior services also incorporates Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI), Incidental Teaching, Task Analysis Instruction, Pivotal Response Training (PRT), and Fluency-Based Instruction as needed. Our behavior analysts focus on expanding a child’s verbal behavior and communication skills, expanding their play skills, increasing social awareness, teaching pre-academic and academic skills, independent self-help skills, and following school or social routines. Each program is individualized to the child’s needs and learning style.

Benefits of Behavior Services

Many young children and adolescents who receive early intensive behavior services are able to develop skills that allow them to independently participate in a mainstream school setting. Providing one behavior therapy intensively, rather than multiple therapies less intensively, ensures consistency across home and community settings. Families benefit from learning strategies for facilitating their child’s use of newly acquired skills as well as for reducing challenging behaviors.

Behavior services can build and develop language use, communication skills, build on current conversation and improve functional language, while also working on more conversational or social language between peers. Behavior services also benefit the child’s social development, showing improvement with peer interaction, engaging with peers, and social play. The benefits also transfer over to the school environment, showing progress in both fine and gross motor development, increased focus and attention, class participation, social integration with classmates, and improved organizational skills. Lastly, behavior modification is a common target, showing improvement in functional, appropriate behaviors and a decrease in undesired or inappropriate behaviors.
